This original painting was 8"x10" - mixed media on paper.
Obviously I grew up on Marvel, and after doing a the “Marvel Universe: Map by Map” for DK Publishing (UK) - out November 16th, 2021 - I still had a little itch to scratch, and began this piece on my desk where it was put away and picked up over and over again over a few months. The process was an experiment, using an Ultramarine waterproof ink to create the initial gouache ink resist (inspired by Mayfield Parrish’s Blue underpaintings), and was then layered on with gouache, acrylic, and colored pencil, more acrylic, more colored pencil. I'm an artist, illustrator, map-maker and educator living and working in Maine. I've created two books of illustrated maps, Plotted: A Literary Atlas, and Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies. My commercial clients include the New York Times, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, and many others, and I do a bit of gallery work as well.
Adhesive backed vinyl stickers are printed on the same systems as our gallery-quality art prints. Stickers feature a gloss laminate over the print to ensure durability.
