This original 22" x 22" gouache painting was created for my two-man show "History of the World", "Bicentennial" was an image created to commemorate the 200th birthday of the planet itself. While either coalescing in the protoplanetary disk or after the proto-Earth's collision with Theia, after 200 years it would still be quite a mess - a sort of half-assembled mass. And as a young planet, I thought it would be well represented by one of my favorite childhood toys, Legos.
I'm an artist, illustrator, map-maker and educator living and working in Maine. I've created two books of illustrated maps, Plotted: A Literary Atlas, and Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies. My commercial clients include the New York Times, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, and many others, and I do a bit of gallery work as well.
