Zarna had watched the melee with bated breath after her own team had been caught between two others, and they had all of them been eliminated from the fierce competition. She cheered loudly each time she saw one of her friends do well, and even more so when she saw Tulun bring down men far larger than herself. She could wield a lance that one.
When the girl who had ridden in so splendidly a few days earlier had come to Tulun's aid, the two of them had seemed nearly unstoppable, and it took the combined efforts of nine strong men to end their rampage across the training field.
She did not like the dark haired stranger much. For all her skill, she obviously came from the wealth of the great cities, and had probably been given all her finery and that good sword, and Zarna's ebbing envy became a slight rush when she caught up with the two, and the rich girl was tending to Tulun and the two of them were grinning together. That should have been her place, not that of a spoiled stranger.
