Many know the story of Kaguya-hime, the shining girl born in the hollow of a bamboo. How she grew up to be an exceptional beauty with a pure heart. How she cried whenever she saw the full moon. How eventually, she was spirited back to the night sky, leaving behind the parents who found her and the man who loved her.
The part of story most do not know, however, is the day she returned. On a particularly warm summer night, while the people of heaven and earth celebrated the Weaver and the Cowherd crossing the Milky Way, Kaguya-hime made a fiery descent back to the ground, though she could hardly control where she landed. Deep in the forest she waited, until finally a member of the Bamboo Army sent by the Lonely Wolf King came upon her, glowing again in the hollow of a bamboo. Small and weakened by her journey, worried that the heavens would come looking for her again, she asked the fox to stay and protect her until her king could come.
Addi Miyako is based in the beautiful Bay Area in Northern California. She draws inspiration from nature, Japanese folklore, and the feminine.
When not creating art, she enjoys singing, traveling, and trying new foods.
