Everyone in the Bamboo Kingdom knew where to find the king. He had taken to padding around the wild forests, helping lost travelers find their way out. It had been this way since he had lost his love many years ago. At every full moon, he penned letters and poems to her and burned them at the top of the mountain, diligently fanning the flames with the hope that the smoke would carry his words to the princess who ascended into the night sky long ago. There he would sit, gazing at the stars, telling them news of the kingdom. The stars remained silent, until one night, when the lonely Wolf King reported that the ogre threat had been defeated. As if to answer, a shooting star streaked across the sky, passing directly above him before landing deep in the endless bamboo groves that lined the borders. He knew at once it was his love returning home, and at first light announced a kingdom-wide search for the princess.
