Shika was one of countless servants who lived and worked within the palace grounds - the Orchid Kingdom was prosperous, and many hands were required in order to maintain such prosperity. No one understood exactly how the Horse King brought the kingdom such wealth, but few thought to question it except Shika, whose curiosity burned every time she was tasked to carry mysterious sealed messages to and from the king's study. One day Shika's inquisitiveness got the better of her; nestled deep in the lush palace gardens, she carefully unwrapped a parcel left in her care. Within it was a large coin, its origin unknown to her; she enjoyed feeling the weight and coolness of the metal as she turned it over in her palm before carefully placing it back it the silk kerchief.
The Horse King is wise, and though she tried her best to wrap the coin exactly as before, he knew it had been opened. However, rather than expel her from the palace, the king unexpectedly asked if she would be interested in joining as his right-hand. "Only the adventurous are worthy of joining on my treasure hunts...wouldn't you like to know where this coin came from?"
