i had to come back to this lake a couple times in order to get this shot! it was sooooooo windy the first two visits but the third was the charm. those are tufas! it smelled like ass out here not gonna lie.

It covers an area of about 65 square miles and has a unique ecosystem that supports a variety of plant and animal life, including brine shrimp and alkali flies, which provide food for millions of migrating birds each year. The lake is known for its striking tufa towers, which are calcium carbonate formations that rise from the lake's bottom and provide habitat for a variety of species.
Mono Lake has a rich cultural and natural history, with evidence of human habitation in the area dating back thousands of years. The lake has been used for various purposes over the years, including as a source of water for irrigation and as a source of sodium carbonate, which was once used in the manufacture of soap and glass.
