In most media black boys are portrayed in such stereotypical, harmful ways. You're either a thug, a victim of the hood, a token character to help support the other white characters, or not seen at all. There have only been a handful of times I've seen a black person being represented in my art history classes. And even though they were normally slaves on the sidelines of the painting, just seeing them made me light up... representation is so important, and I hope that this series shows how multifaceted and amazing and worthy of art my black boys are
An art student from Chicago trying to add some diversity to the art world
