Gonçalo Viana lives near the Atlantic, in Lisbon. He’s been working as an illustrator since 2002.
Having first graduated in architecture and worked for a practice in London for a few years, he soon moved on and followed his true love, illustration.
Although he no longer works as an architect, architecture has found a way into his illustrations, seeping through its geometric design and compositions. It also fueled his drive for strong concepts and presentation.
In 2004 he received an Award of Excellence from the Society for News Design (SND) and in 2008 he was awarded the Stuart Grand Prize for the best Portuguese Press Illustration & Cartoon.
Working in Lisbon as a freelance illustrator, his editorial illustrations have been published in leading newspapers and magazines both at home and abroad.
